Tax Returns: What to Include, What to Keep

When filing a paper tax return, you must include:

  1. A copy of each of your information slips
  2. Schedule 1 and provincial Form 428
  3. Other documents may be required.  Be sure to carefully examine the requirements laid out in the guide and on the schedules and forms.

Supporting documents (other receipts, etc.) must be kept for six years.  This is also true if you file a return online.  If the CRA ever request supporting information, you must be able to provide the necessary documents or your claim may be disallowed.  For more information, visit the Canada Revenue Agency website at www.cra-arc.gc.ca
